Renowned for its fishing, friendly locals and relaxed atmosphere, Drumsna Co. Leitrim is a perfect place for your activity break, fishing trip or relaxing getaway.
Situated on the banks of the River Shannon, Cois na hAbhainn self-catering cottage provides an ideal base for fishing trips , for touring the region or indeed, the rest of
Ireland. The following is a list of some of the local amenities available
in the area:
Drumsna is located only three miles from the bustling county town of Carrick
on Shannon, and is one and half hours drive from Dublin.
Drumsna also has many historical associations. In a small cemetery close
by our self-catering cottage is the burial place of surgeon Thomas Hazel Parke, who
accompanied Henry Morton Stanley on his exploration expedition in the
African Congo.
Within strolling distance of the cottage stands the ivy covered ruins of
the Lordly mansion of the Jones' landlord. This is where novelist Anthony Trollope
wrote his first novel, "The McDermotts of Ballycloran". Drumsna is also
the birthplace of Robert Strawbridge. He was a Methodist preacher in Ireland
in the 1700's, who emigrated to Maryland and began preaching there, making
him the pioneer of Methodism on the American continent.
